Curriculum, Vision & Ethos
Curriculum
Our bespoke curriculum has been specifically designed for the youngest of our learners and is derived from leading practice such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia and The Curiosity Approach.
Our curriculum will enable our youngest learners to be seen as competent, resourceful, imaginative, inventive and curious - learners who possess a desire to interact and communicate with those around them and their environment.
Embedded within our curriculum are the 7 areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Expressive Arts and Design and Understanding of the World.
These 7 areas support our youngest learners in developing a foundation of knowledge, skills and beliefs that enable them to become self-aware, compassionate and confident 'thinkers and doers' of the future. Loose parts, innovations to play and purposeful interactions with trusted and supportive adults will enable our youngest learners to thrive in an environment and curriculum designs and purposefully built with their development at the heart. The embedding of practical life and everyday activities such as pouring their own drinks, preparing food in our bespoke children's kitchen, setting the table and washing up will instil care for: oneself, for others and the environment.
Vision
Our vision is to inspire aspirational, confident learners and leaders of the future who have a deep understanding of the world around them and the impact they can have on it.
Our youngest learners will leave Nursery as
Ethos
Within The Nursery at Bengeworth CE Academy we strive to support our youngest learners in becoming curious, thinkers and doers of the future. We do this through our strong partnerships with parents / carers but through the following:
Rich Well Planned Learning Environments
Our staff carefully plan the learning environment, the use of authentic resources and loose parts to instil a sense of awe and wonder about the world around our children. The learning environment is planned to be progressional, reflective of the seasons, to celebrate the diversity within our Nursery and the world as well as to develop our children’ skills and knowledge in line with Development Matters.
High Quality Purposeful Interactions
Interactions between children and adults are consistently high in quality, purposeful and language rich. All interactions regardless of when they take place ensure our children feel a sense of belonging, think deeply, enable them to explore new vocabulary and are used to move learning forward.
Family Groups
All of our children belong to a ‘Family Group’ led by a member of our Nursery team. Each group comes together daily to focus on particular areas of learning that have been meticulously planned to support our children in learning something new, practicing a new skill or closing a gap in something they find challenging.
In The Moment Planning
Uninterrupted, child initiated play sits at the heart of our Nursery ethos and it is the role of our highly skilled adults to recognise when ‘teachable moments’ can take place within our children’s child initiated play. Staff will seize the moment to carefully involve themselves in children’s play when they recognise that something new can be taught or a skill can be developed through high quality interactions and modelling. These moments, often called ‘Wow Moments ’ can not be planned as they happen there and then but we recognise that it is through these moments that the greatest impact can seen on our children’s development. Staff record these on our children’s SeeSaw accounts so our families can share in their children’s Wow Moments.
